Sonia & Rahul Gandhi Granted Bail, Social Media Fumes

Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi have today appeared before a Metropolitan Magistrate court which granted them bail in just five minutes, in the alleged National Herald case.

The duo appeared before Metropolitan Magistrate Loveleen in the Patiala House court complex. Kapil Sibal, who appeared on behalf of the two leaders, reported that the court rejected petitioner BJP senior leader Subramanian Swamy’s plea to impose restrictions on their Travel out of India, except for asking for security deposit of Rs 50,000 on behalf of each of the accused.

The court fixed the next date of hearing to February 20. Sonia and Rahul Gandhi left the court complex immediately after the verdict.

On June 26 2014, the trial court issued summons to Sonia and Rahul responding to Swamy’s complaint about the acquisition of Associated Journals Ltd., which published the National Herald newspaper. The Delhi High Court last week had dismissed the plea of the Gandhis to dismiss the summons issued by the trial court and instructed them to appear before the trial court today.
